SCHEDULE “A” – JOB DESCRIPTION –

The Civic Theatre is looking to fill a part-time Kootenay Screen-Based Industry (KSBI) Community Engagement & Communications Assistant to support the Nelson Civic Theatre Society’s efforts in developing a thriving, local screen-based industry (inclusive of film, television and new media). The Community Engagement Assistant works to support discussion, conversation, information sharing and discourse in our community and region, specifically in the areas of the Kootenay Screen-Based Industry (KSBI), Kootenay Film and the Kootenay Regional Film Commission.

 

Reporting to the KSBI Regional Program Manager, you will assist them with proactively supporting program goals, specifically in the area of community engagement and communications. Organizing meetup events and maintaining regular communication with crew members, local talent, and industry stakeholders will be an important part of your job. Your role will also involve providing social media and administrative support.

DUTIES:

 

  • Posting, scheduling, and analysis of engaging new and reposted/shared social media on the KSBI Facebook Group Page and Kootenay Film social channels
  • Maintaining regular online audience engagement via responding to messages and comments
  • Welcoming new members to the KSBI Facebook Group
  • Gather and share industry-related news, articles and reports
  • Scheduling and organizing the monthly KSBI meet up
  • Seeking out and encouraging new group members through organic opportunities, such as meetups, other online groups, and online promotions
  • Updating KootenayFilm.com content as needed
  • Create creative and written collateral for website, social media, e-newsletters, events and other campaigns, such as writing blogs, member interviews, short video edits, graphic design, and press releases
  • Other duties as assigned, as may be needed to support the goals of the local and regional SBI
  • Collect data and maintain program records, databases, and media lists
  • Assist with industry research and surveys
  • Assist in identifying avenues for network growth and strategic relationship building through supporting engagement with prospects, stakeholders, and key community groups
  • Assist in finding industry and professional development and funding opportunities
  • Growing photo archive through attending/recording KSBI related events and experiences
  • Other administrative duties

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

    • The ability to work legally in Canada – required
    • A passion for community-building – required
    • Polite, professional manner with superior communication skills – required
    • Previous related experience, ideally in a non-profit arts and culture environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience – preferred
    • Strong interest in the arts, especially cinema and/or film production – preferred
    • Graphic design experience – preferred
    • Familiarity with the communities of the East and Central Kootenays – preferred
    • Event planning and coordination experience – preferred
    • Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies – preferred

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

 

  • Excellent oral, written communication and organizational/project management skills
  • Ability to multitask, change focus, and meet tight, fluctuating deadlines
  • Ability to thrive, collaborate, and adapt to change in a rapidly evolving organization
  • High degree of self-motivation and good work ethic with the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, set priorities, organize work, and make independent decisions
  • Familiarity with Gmail and GSuite apps (Docs, Sheets, Forms)
  • Willingness to become proficient with various digital platforms, tools and project management tools software such as Airtable and Slack
  • Familiarity with and/or willingness to become proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) eg. WordPress, Squarespace
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A thorough understanding of establishing and cultivating sustainable relationships
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in handling confidential materials and interacting with management staff, visitors and donors
  • Demonstrates awareness of differences of and appreciation for differences in human behaviours and cultures
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the “big picture” of NCTS’ organizational development, while attending to the essential details for the KSBI program’s success
