๐ŸŽ‰Happy New Year!๐ŸŽ‰

โœจAs we kick off the first day of 2025, we reflect back on a year of growth for Kootenay Film, which continues to foster growth and connection in our regional screen based industry, while looking forward to reaching new heights in 2025 โ›ฐ๏ธโœจ

๐ŸŒŸ We strengthened efforts to bolster screen-based communities throughout our entire region, by fostering a relationship with Columbia Valley Economic Development. This led to a grant application for a pilot project to enhance film location scouting in our region. Results TBA! ๐Ÿคž And with the immense help of Columbia Valley, โ€˜All Night Wrongโ€™ landed in our region and went into production.

๐ŸŒŸ With Intercultural Kootenays as a partner, we applied for a major grant for a mentorship program to support marginalized communities in the industry. Results TBA! ๐Ÿคž

๐ŸŒŸ We went to Vancouver for an industry meet up with Creative BC and the regional film commissions. Important conversations were had and valuable connections were made ๐Ÿคย

๐ŸŒŸ The Her Vision: Women in Film Mentorship program continued, pairing emerging filmmakers with experienced professionals in the field. Panel discussion to come this year, where experiences as women in the industry will be shared ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

๐ŸŒŸ The ๐ŸŽฌMomentum Masterclass๐ŸŽฌ series that started in 2021 continued, and five workshops ran in 2024 covering props, evaluating lenses for cinematography, film scoring, documentary creation, and writing and directing your story. Two more to be announced early this year!

๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“… Five KSBI meetups were hosted offering opportunities to share works-in-progress, discuss challenges, successes, and connect with one another through the unique lens each person has to offer. Weโ€™ve shared food, drinks, trivia challenges, and even messed around with gear, taking time to play and inspire.โœจ

๐ŸŒŸIn an effort to illuminate the diverse talent, broaden networks and build community among our Kootenay Screen Based Industry Workers, the Kootenay Film Crew Spotlight Series took shape in the fall. Interviews with members offered a window into how they learned their craft, where they draw inspiration, and what their process looks like.๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ The job board launched on KootenayFilm.com ๐Ÿ’ผ

๐ŸŒŸ Finally, we are very excited to share that a new Film Commissioner has joined our team ๐ŸŽ‰ Stay tuned for the upcoming announcement about the next chapter of the film commission ๐Ÿ“ข
